In Memoriam: Yvonne Mounsey, 1919 – 2012 and Rosemary Valaire, 1931 – 1999
Yvonne Mounsey founded Westside Ballet in 1967, and taught three generations of dancers right up until her passing in September 2012.
She built a faculty which continues her tradition of excellence in training and the development of the student as an artist.
Rosemary Valaire co-founder of Westside Ballet, was a former soloist with Britain’s Royal Ballet from 1946 until 1954 and held the prestigious Solo Seal.
For over three decades she taught thousands of young dancers to love and excel in the beautiful art of ballet with her classic Royal Ballet style.

Westside Ballet’s faculty is composed of teachers with broad experience performing with professional companies all over the world. Ms. Mounsey was a Principal ballerina with New York City Ballet, and a luminary of George Balanchine, where she learned his teaching style firsthand, and has imparted this technique to the faculty.
